About this book
This standard book is an exposition of the Cecchetti method of ballet. For decades Cecchetti (1850-1928) performed and taught in Russia and with Diaghilevs troupe. Elaborating a logical progression of exercises Cecchetti provided dance with a unity it previously lacked balancing the adagio and allegro re-establishing the notion of "legato" strengthening the arabesque developing the exercise of the plies. In this book Cyril Beaumont the most distinguished modern writer on ballet has codified Cecchettis program of study starting from the very beginning assisted in the descriptions by one of Cecchetis star pupils Idzikowski. Cecchetti himself approved this statement of the Cecchetti method.
