About this book
An Exposition of the Four Gospels by Hobbs, Herschel H.. paperback edition. ISBN: 9780801056963.
Hobbs examines the four Gospels with a the keen mind of a theologian and the practical mind of a pastor. His exposition of the Gospels are built on his understanding of, and belief in, the inerrant nature of "Hobbs believed that the Bible is the inspired written record of God’s revelation to men. He maintained that God is not discovered but is manifest to humanity through God’s own self-disclosure. God’s self-revelation in His written word is clearer than any other source of revelation." Herschel Hobbs (1907-1995) was one of the leading Christian communicators of the 20th century. He served as pastor of the First Baptist Church in Oklahoma City for nearly twenty-five years and wrote or edited 147 books and Bible commentaries. Herschel Hobbs views his own life as one long series of personal encounters with God--beginning with the tragic death of his father when Hobbs was two years old and continuing through more than sixty years of pastoral service and his election as president of the largest Protestant denomination in America. Hobbs’s Biblicism, his sound Christology, his emphasis on salvation by grace through faith, and his unapologetic belief in Christ’s sufficient and substitutionary death, bodily resurrection and imminent return, coupled with his belief in the eternal state and the final judgment, provided a healthy framework for his thinking and teaching and for Southern Baptist theology.
