For a number of years the Dallas public schools allowed one-half credit toward high-school graduation for the successful completion of a general survey course in the Bible, given in the churches and Sunday schools of the city. In 1939, it was decided to provide separate courses in the Old and the New Testaments, each course carrying one-half unit of credit toward high-school graduation. In both the Old Testament and the New Testament study courses an attempt has been made to avoid controversial questions by placing emphasis on the study of the Bible itself.
