About this book

Citizen Soldier - Carl T. Jones by Raymond B. Jones. paperback edition. ISBN: 9780692450093.

The Carl T. Jones family story really began in 1804 with the coming of his great grandfather, Isaac Criner, to North Alabama. Isaac Criner was the first white settler to live in what is now Madison County, Alabama and he remained living near the town of New Market for the rest of his life. This book follows the lineage of Isaac Criner for three generations which includes the Civil War, World War I, World War II and the farming and other enterprises attempted by his family. The early family stories from the 19th century were conveyed to me by my grandmother, Elvalena M. Jones. The World War II information was gleaned from the journals of Carl T. Jones as he fought through the war in Alaska and northern Europe. Being a civil engineer, Carl was very detailed and left meticulous records, complete with photographs, as the war progressed. The rest of the book is about the rebuilding of the lives of the family and their business enterprises after the war, concluding with the death of Carl T. Jones in 1967.
