Before WWII Malcom Rosholt worked as a newspaperman on an English language daily in Shanghai. He traveled extensively throughout north China and studied the Chinese language with a private tutor. In 1933 he returned to the state to marry Margaret Njaa or Northwood ND and they sailed from Vancouver on their honeymoon trip to Shanghai. A daughter Mei-fei named after a famous beauty of the Tang Dynasty was born in 1936.
