Egon Schiele

Egon Schiele by Jane Kallir. hardcover edition. ISBN: 9780810938458.

Egon Schieles powerful paintings, watercolors, and drawings, especially those exploring the subject of his emergent sexuality, have long struck a responsive chord in modern audiences. They form only one aspect of Schueles output, however, and in this book they are seen in the context of his evolution as an artist. Here, a superb selection of representative works of every period, subject, and medium offers a comprehensive view of Schieles achievement. This book perfectly encapsulates Schieles brilliant career. The 101 excellent colorplates, augmented by a wealth of comparative illustrations, are accompanied by detailed commentaries by Jane Kallir. She also provides an incisive introduction and an illustrated biographical chronology. A special feature of Egon Schiele is Alessandra Cominis essay, "In Search of Schiele" in which she recounts her experiences interviewing the artists family, friends, and major sitters. This unique material provides rare personal insights into his life and personality.
