About this book
Fair exchange; recollections of a life with horses, by Finney, Humphrey S. Hardcover edition. ISBN: 9780684137070.
Fair Exchange: Recollections of a Life With Horses by Humphrey S Finney, with Raleigh Burroughs. New York: Charles Scribners Sons, 1974. 1st Edition, Hardbound, 9.25 inches tall, 175 pages. Index. Portrait frontis plus two sections of black and white photo plates. Humphrey Finney arrived in New York from England in 1921, with the American equivalent of 46 guineas, a spotty education, and a passion for horses. He was on his way to Michigan, where he was to take a job on a horse farm, and thus to begin a lifelong career which would involve him in virtually every aspect of the horse world and would culminate in his years as president and then chairman of Fasig-Tipton Company, Thoroughbred Auctioneers. In this book he recalls, in a lively and lighthearted way, the people and the horses he has known. Humphrey also talks of his association with the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II where he was instrumental in planning and in procuring and later selling horses for the Coast Guard beach patrol, whose function was to intercept spies or saboteurs smuggled in from German submarines offshore.
