What impresses me most about this book is what it tells us about the U.S. Army and War Department in World War II. No other army in history has ever known its enemy as well as the American army knew the German army when the Americans crossed the Rhine River and began their final offensive. The British had fought the Germans longer, the Russians had fought more of them, so their collective experience was greater than that of the Americans.
