Robert L. Jackson born in Crystal Falls, in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, entered the Army in March of 1944 after graduating from high school. He received his basic training as a message center chief at Camp Blanding, Fl. Before he left for England in August 1944. Landing at Normandy, Pvt. Jackson was sent as a replacement tot he 109th Regt., Pennsylvania Keystone 28th Division. On December 18, 1944 he was taken prisoner of war during the Battle of the Bulge. For 101 days Pvt. Jackson was forced to labor for the German Army until he was liberated on March 29, 1945.
