The 1925 edition of the Locomotive Cyclopedia, issued during a time of rising popularity for the railroads as they approached the zenith of their passenger operation, saw the inclusion of many advancements in the art of steam locomotive building. In fact, for the steam purist, this edition was to be the last of the all-steam-oriented cyclopedias. The first diesel-electric was not to appear until the 1927 edition. This, the Seventh Edition, was the second to be organized as a cyclopedia rather than the previous dictionary style, with material arranged into sections making it more readily accessible.
