About this book
M41 Walker Bulldog in Action - Armor No. 29 by Jim Mesko. paperback edition. ISBN: 9780897472623.
As a result of increase tension with the Soviet Union, the U.S. began to rebuild its conventional forces during the late 1940s and early 1950s., particularly after the start of the Korean War (June of 1950). Because testing had progressed smoothly the Army decided to put the T41E1 into production and issued an initial ordr for 1000 vehicles in 1950. As with previous tanks the T41E1 had received a nickname, the Little Bulldog, which was a departure from Army practice of naming American tanks after famous generals. The nickname, however, was later amended to the Walker Bulldog in honor of Gen Walton Walker, the commander of U.S. forces in Korea who had been killed in a jeep accident during early 1951.
