About this book

Miniature Rooms : The Thorne Rooms at the Art Institute of Chicago [Postcard Book] by Amy R. Peltz [Ed]. Card Book edition. ISBN: 9780865592476.

The Art Institute of Chicago [Published 2011] Postcard book with 30 postcards. Stiff paper covers. [From back cover] For generations, visitors to the Art Institute of Chicago have been captivated by the Thorne Rooms. These sixty-eight miniature rooms, designed by Chicago collector and philanthropist Mrs. James Ward Thorne between 1932 and 1940, document European, American, and Asian interiors from the sixteenth century to the early twentieth century. This postcard book features thirty of the most beloved and significant rooms, including an English great hall from the Tudor period, complete with miniature armor; a French bathroom and boudoir of the Revolutionary Period whose classical decorative panels, furniture, and color scheme were inspired by the frescoes of Pompeii; a Virginia parlor inspired by a room in Mount Vernon, the home of George Washington, and a 1940s California hallway decorated with miniature works of art actually made by famous artists of the day, including painter Fernand Leger.
