About this book

Miracles of South Carolina: True Stories of Grace in the Palmetto State by Boman, Robbie Goodall. paperback edition. ISBN: 9780976146018.

Miracles of South Carolina, is for believers and skeptics alike. True stories of grace fill its pages, many told publicly for the first time. From a Providentially inscribed Bible to a lakeside guardian angel to forewarnings, saving voices, and comforting visions, Boman tells of firsthand experiences of faith, surprise, and the miraculous. Healings of the body and the soul are scattered throughout, as are angels, reassuring messages from loved ones now gone, and more."Often, and rather surprisingly, when the subject of miracles came up during my research," Boman says, "people rushed to speak. . . . This was not selfish zeal. Instead, it acknowledged a pent-up desire to find someone, anyone, who would really listen and not dismiss a supernatural occurrence as a lie or ‘crazy.’ That’s the word people almost always used." Contrary to some stereotypes, the divine interventions were intense but not sappy or silly. "On the contrary," she says, "each interviewee described a super-charged slice of time in precise, objective, factual language. It seemed vital to translate the experience, to get it just right, in understandable, precise, human terms." One of the most fascinating stories in the book happened to the author herself, at the Triune Mercy Center, a Greenville soup kitchen: In the spring of 2006 Boman came across a homeless woman at the center. She was alone and shaky from any number of possible addictions."What’s your name?" Boman asked. "Want a Bible?" "Angel," she said, and, "Yes, I want a Bible. . . . I want to start over." They went into the quiet, old sanctuary."Come on in here. This is where the Bibles are kept," Boman urged. The woman said nothing as they examined the first. It was too tattered, so Boman reached for the next Bible. It was in slightly better shape, but not by much. She opened the front cover. The homeless woman looked on. They stopped and saw it together.Scrawled in large, penciled, capital letters across the front two empty pages were the words "Welcome Home, Angel." All of the stories in Miracles of South Carolina are true. Miracles are happening right here in the Palmetto State, and as Robbie Boman has discovered, they are happening to people very much like you.
