No Voice from the Hall: Early Memories of a Country House Snooper

About this book

"It was John Harris mournful voice that tolled out the catalogue of demolition in The Destruction of the Country House exhibition at the Victoria & Albert Museum that devastating show that effectively launched Britains Heritage movement in 1974. His morbid fascination with Britains empty derelict and dying country houses in the late 1940s and 1950s is the principal theme of this intensely romantic poignant angry frequently hilarious and hauntingly illustrated memoir."
