This book received a National Book Award in the Philippines. Co-authors are Gladys Montgomery (Jones), Jill Gale de Villa, and Maria Garcia Farr. Since its publication, Eduardo Masferre has been recognized as the father of Philippine photography. A self-taught photographer, who trekked on foot throughout the Cordillera producing images from glass-plate negatives, documented the tribal people of Luzon (in the same way that Edward Curtis documented the American Indian.
