Did you know these facts? 1.In 193031 the German bishops excommunicated any Catholics who joined the Nazi Party who wore the uniform or flew the flag. (See pages 2022 and the US confirmation see page 31.) 2.Consequently the Catholics massively voted 3 to 1 rejecting Adolf Hitler as Chancellor in the last free election of 1932 elections. (See page 25). 3.In a profound public condemnation the Papal Encyclical Mit Brennender Sorge (With Burning Anxiety) was drafted in German by Cardinal Faulhaber but was edited and enhanced by Cardinal Eugenio Pacellithe future Pope Pius XII. The document was smuggled into Germany on March 14 1937. The encyclical vehemently opposed the National Socialistic doctrine. This was the only encyclical ever to have been written in a foreign language. (See page 29.) 4.In April 1938 Pope Pius XI and Cardinal Eugenio Pacelli closed the Vatican and traveled to Castel Gandolfo to avoid meeting Hitler a few days before he made a state visit to Rome. They also closed all of the Vatican museums and ordered priests and nuns to avoid any and all festivities. (See page 157.) 5.Germany refused to allow any German officials to attend the coronation of Pope Pius XII on March 2 1939. Pope Pius XII was called the political Pope who opposed National Socialism doctrine . . . Is that a Hitlers Pope? (See page 48.) 6.During the Holocaust 20 percent of the Jews of Europe survived the Shoah while 80 percent of the Jews in Italy survived. It was Pope Pius XII who acted directly to firmly end the arrest of the Roman Jews on October 16 1943 and it was his ordered actions that saved an estimated twelve thousand Jews from arrest. (See pages 56; 109112.) 7.In 1945 the Chief Rabbi of Rome Israel Zolli converted to Roman Catholicism and took the name of Eugenio in gratitude for the lifesaving efforts of Pope Pius XII. One year later Rabbi Zollis wife converted and took the name Eugenia. (See pages 180; 189.) 8.In November 1947 thirty-three of the forty-four member states voting in the United Nations voted in favor of the partitioning of Palestine thereby creating the Jewish State of Israel. Seventeen of the thirty-three member states were Catholic countries and asked Pope Pius XII what they should do. The Pope stated that he did not object. (See page 74.) 9.Eugenio Pacelli and his secretary Father Leiber were named by the Gestapo Kaltenbrunner report as coconspirators in the July 20 1944 Valkyrie assassination attempt against Adolf Hitler . . . This report was true. (See pages 3637.) 10.In the well-known book by John Cornwell Hitlers Pope much of the conclusions have been discredited. The photo of the cover itself was doctored and misdated to intentionally create a negative impression. (See page 215.) 11.The majority of archival information from the Vatican Secret Archives on the ministry of Eugenio Pacelli from 1917 to 1939 was opened by Pope John Paul II in 2003. None of the critics or institutions critical of his Papacy have come to Rome seeking access for their own original research.
