About this book

Prayers for the Servants of God by Hays, Edward. paperback edition. ISBN: 9780939516032.

Those persons who perform such duties as lector, minister of communion or services that flow from the altar, such as visiting the sick, are servants in the image of our Lord, Jesus Christ. The title “Servant of Yahweh,” or “Servant of the Lord” was a distinction among the prophets of Israel commanding great respect. Moses, David, and Elijah, for example, were called servants or slaves of God. Although we who live in a democratic society may find the title of servant to be an uncomfortable one, that very title is applied to Jesus numerous times in the New Testament. As disciples of The Servant of God – Jesus – no title can be for us a greater honor. Those persons, both ordained and non-ordained, who are called to serve others will hopefully find in that ancient gift of service the royal road to personal growth in holiness. The prayers of this book are simply seeds to bring forth that unfolding spirituality of service, seeds to raise in each servant a consciousness of the Divine Mystery present within every act of service – indeed, within every act.
