Spirit Baptism: A Biblical Investigation

Spirit Baptism: A Biblical Investigation by Ervin, Howard M.. paperback edition. ISBN: 9780913573792.

"Howard Ervins Spirit Baptism (a revision of his earlier, These Are Not Drunken, As Ye Suppose) is a fine, scholarly examination of biblical and theological foundations of the Pentecostal baptism in the Holy Spirit and the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Ervin does an outstanding job of demonstrating that Spirit baptism in the New Testament relates not to conversion or sanctification but to charismatic empowerment. Spirit Baptism is a much needed contribution to Evangelical and Pentecostal understanding and a challenge to the church at large for a genuine spiritual renewal." —J. Rodman Williams, Ph.D., Professor of Theology, CBN University Spirit Baptism: A Biblical Investigation is a substantial revision of Dr. Ervins classic, These Are Not Drunken, As Ye Suppose. A pioneer in the Pentecostal/Charismatic movement, Dr. Ervin provides one of the best exegetical studies of the biblical basis for the reality of Spirit baptism. A word-by-word analysis of the Greek text of those passages germane to the doctrine of Spirit baptism makes this indispensable for any student of NT pneumatology or the modern Pentecostal/Charismatic discussion. Whether one accepts the validity of Dr. Ervins conclusions or not, Spirit Baptism: A Biblical Investigation, is an important work which should not be ignored.
