At the age of 12 Roland Warnock was a working cowboy on the huge Guadalupe Ranch in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas. He took part in trail drives fought Mexican banditos and saw his father killed on the streets of Mission Texas. From there he moved to San Angelo Texas before getting a place of his own at Fort Stockton in 1919. In 1973 his grandson Kirby F. Warnock recorded nearly 18 hours of tape of his oral memoirs of the last days of the Texas frontier. Not the movies but the real thing Texas Cowboy is the old west the way it really was from a man who lived it.
