About this book

The book is a revised and updated version of the highly successful earlier edition published 25 years ago. It incorporates sound teaching principles simple language and excellent illustrations. The approach is two-fold: First identify and master the 4 basic skills which are the only 4 ways to control the skis: edging balancing rotating or controlling pressure. Beginners intermediates and experts all use these 4 skills. The different ways they use them is what differentiates each group. An additional chapter entitled "Knees and Shoulders" stresses the major role these play in progressing from intermediate to advanced skiing. Second apply these principles on gentle steep bumpy and powder slopes. Each type of slope requires different applications of the basic skills. The book will be of interest to skiers of all levels as well as ski instructors. It presents the basics of skiing but not a teaching method.
