A new book The Archdiocese of New Orleans and Katrina: A Story of Hope in a Time of Destruction chronicles the work of the local Catholic Church following Hurricane Katrina from the days immediately following the storm in Baton Rouge to five years later. Father William Maestri former Superintendent of Catholic Schools and Director of Communications for the archdiocese authored the book. The book details the Churchs role in responding to the storm and contains over 300 photos and several personal stories of those who lived through the challenging days months and years to follow. In addition the book explores the inner workings and decision making processes of the archdiocese as retired Archbishop Alfred Hughes contributed his personal notes and files to Father Maestri as he wrote the book.
