This fine quality coffeetable book by Big Island author and art historian Dr. Don Aanavi is an in-depth study of the Mauna Kea Beach Hotels 1 600-piece collection of Asian and Oceanic art beautifully photographed by David Frantzen. Originally published by Mauna Kea Beach Hotel and the East-West Center in 1990 "The Art of Mauna Kea" has won critical acclaim for its intelligent content and remarkable design by Barbara Pope of Honolulu. The second edition features its original formal blue silk sleeve and Foreward by Laurance S. Rockefeller who assembled the collection in 1965. Included are authentic Hawaiian quilts tapa cloths hand-carved tiki and other treasures from Polynesia as well as ceremonial pieces from China Japan Southeast Asia and India in keeping with the resorts East-meets-West tradition.
