About this book
A history of the Art Students League of New York from its inception in 1875 to the present. Includes overviews of the world art scene during the end of the 19th century as well as glimpses into New York City during the turn of the century. The author tried as much as possible in accordance with the wishes of Rosina Florio former Director of the League who initially commissioned the book to write a history that avoided a factual date-to-date person-to person chronicling drawn from archival materials by relying heavily on the personal memories and observations of League members instructors and models. It was in this manner that a sense of the League spirit as well as its influence on the American art scene might be transmitted in a livelier form to the reader.
