Byerlys was founded in 1968 by Don Byerly who opened the first store in Golden Valley Minnesota. Byerlys opened fourteen other stores in the metro area. The store was known for its "great customer service" and its deli and bakery. Byerlys was commonly viewed as high-end grocery shopping. Product quality was the core focus of Byerlys. In April 1997 the company was purchased by Lund Food Holdings Inc. Byerlys kept their own test kitchen staffed with home economists. One of their services to their customers was Byerly-tested recipes that they made available throughout the stores and in The Byerly Bag. This book is a presentation of many of the favorites of these.
