The heart of this book is its expansive opening chapter on the history of Q. Here Dale Allison offers an interesting and novel thesis regarding Qs composition with good parallels in other ancient documents. His thesis takes its direction from the work of Dieter Zeller who argued that "the kernel of many of the sayings . . . was composed and transmitted by wandering and wonder-working missionaries.".
