Greville Wynne was a British businessman and British agent who was going to be used to extract Col. Oleg Penkovsky the Wests top agent from East to West using a specially adapted hinged vehicle ostensibly for use as a travelling exhibition of British engineering products. so far so good. Then Penkovsky is arrested and condemned to death in Moscow. Wynne by that time in Budapest is arrested flown out and ends up in a Soviet prison. This book is about that period of the authors life (covered also in his other book The Man From Moscow) but also covers previous intelligence and security activities Wynne got tangled up in from WW2 undercover security work (not very impressive frankly one example being befriending a man who dissented from the Churchill pro-war policy then reporting on that man; he was detained later...) to quite dangerous missions in the Soviet Union and elsewhere. Wynne was eventually exchanged for the Soviet spy Gordon Lonsdale/Konon Molody.
