About this book

The No Scales, Just Songs Vocal Workout Vol. 2: Expanded Version by Anders, Susan. paperback edition. ISBN: 9780967687865.

The follow-up to Susan Anders popular original vocal workout, Vol. Two uses the same teaching format with eighteen new songs and a new, longer guidebook. Vol. One is not a prerequisite for Volume Two: it’s the same format and level of difficulty as Vol. One. The expanded version includes all four Alto/High Tenor/Bass and Baritone/Soprano CDs. Separate Alto/High Tenor/Bass and Baritone/Soprano versions are also available. Vol. Two has been used as a textbook in many college contemporary voice classes. Vocal coach Susan Anders writes in the introduction to Vol. Two: "Several years ago I created a vocal warm up method that didnt use scales, arpeggios or other exercises. One reason I did this was because Id worked with many voice students who just hated singing exercises and wanted to get right to singing songs. Id also watched many other singers master their exercises during their singing lessons but still have difficulty applying good vocal technique to actual songs. What seemed to work best for them was to start with fairly easy songs that allowed them focus on technique, then move to harder songs. So I created a sequence of songs that gradually increased in difficulty, and I matched the songs with vocalese sounds that I knew were good for warming up and developing the voice. As the songs progressed, the singer would cover many important aspects of good vocal technique, including correct breathing, resonance, range expansion and navigation, diction, and more." Beginning singers can learn how to sing correctly and develop their voices by singing through the workout at their own pace, with or without the guidebook. Experienced singers can skip the audio singing lessons and use the workout to warm up and maintain their vocal technique and strength. Volume Two includes: Two CDs of 18 fully produced songs and audio singing lessons. CD #1 includes vocals and instructional introductions. CD #2 has the same songs without vocals followed by a section on how to stylize the songs. A 76-page guidebook including detailed vocal technique information, troubleshooting hints, and vocal stylizing ideas for each song, as well as chapters on dealing with colds, allergies, the environment, and aging. Sing the Warm-up Set of ten songs to loosen up, breathe correctly, increase your range, and to build control, resonance and better tone. Sing the Workout Set of eight songs to increase your volume, vocal endurance, sustenance, belting ability, and pitch dexterity.
