Part farmers almanac community zine and cookbook The Odd Duck Almanac is an annual publication that documents and celebrates the creativity of the immensely talented folks behind Odd Duck Barley Swine and Sour Duck Market restaurants. We debut this annual publishing initiative with our Mother issue quite literally containing recipes and stories about yeast fermentation and cultivation in the kitchen. Inspired by the vernacular of regional farmers almanacs which forecasted weather foretold horoscopes featured recipes hacks and tips and hung on hooks in outhouses. The Odd Duck Almanac is a reflection of a time a place and the people that inhabit it a printed time capsule of Central Texas foodways in the year 2020. This thoughtfully edited volume includes original recipes from the three kitchens farmer profiles community initiatives and behind-the-scene insights into the food people and culture that drive these wildly successful restaurants.
