This book is about people who put up barriers to intimacy. The author explains why these people behave as they do and how their behavior serves to hinder the development of intimate relationships. Reichman describes three types of intimacy avoiders--distancers pseudo-intimates and intimacy saboteurs--and provides techniques to overcome each specific problem. She shows how many people are unwittingly involved with one of these types or are themselves suffering from this problem. By means of case histories the author shows how to recognize intimacy avoiders and how they may achieve healthier relationships and more self-satisfaction.
