About this book

The University of Tulsa: A History, 1882-1972 by Logsdon, Guy. hardcover edition. ISBN: 9780806113975.

In this new series on Oklahoma, it is fitting the University of Tulsa, for that institution had a unique origin and purpose in pioneer Oklahoma, and in its ninety-year history it has had a significant influence on the state. The University began its days as a modest effort to evangelize American Indian girls through education. It was first called the Presbyterian School for Creek Indian girls,, and its frame school building was situated in Muskogee, in the Creek Nation in Indian Territory. From that beginning the school changed goals, directions, names, and locations (moving to Tulsa in 1907) before becoming firmly established as a private nondenominational university.
