Autobiographical book about India published by Viking Press 240 deckle edged pages. This beautifully written book presents the memories of two little sisters from London who spent five years of their childhoods in the village of Narayanguni while their father was stationed there as a steamship company agent. It was just after 1900 and daily life in India was much different then than daily life in the English Quaker community where their parents originally lived. It was they write "a time when everything was clear: each thing was itself joy was joy hope was hope." "We never felt like foreigners " they wrote " We felt at home safely held in her (Indias) large warm embrace content as we were never to be in our own country. Even as children we knew it was a wonderful land."
