Typewriters: Iconic Machines from the Golden Age of Mechanical Writing (Writers Books, Gifts for Writers, Old-School Typewriters) by Casillo, Anthony. hardcover edition. ISBN: 9781452154886.

A front-row seat into the world of collectible typewriters and their history. All from the authors collection, theres no other book on the subject quite like it. Typewriters is the essential story of a writing invention that changed the world. The book is a visual homage to the golden age of the typewriter, 1874-1969. Packed with visuals and rich with history, eighty vintage devices are profiled in elegant photographs and fascinating text that highlight the design modifications, intricate details, and peculiar quirks that make each typewriter unique. This book powerfully demonstrates how much diversity there was along the path of inventing what might otherwise seem to us like the "obvious" standard format typewriter. There are other books that cover either the mainstream history of the development of typewriters or the practicalities of using one in this day and age—but Casillos lavishly photographed and printed collection of the quirky and scarce oddities down through the years is a tour de force.
