This beautiful award winning book is the result of a collaboration between the author and historian Dale Ludwig and internationally known artist John Seerey-Lester. The first version of the book was a leather-bound signed and numbered limited edition accompanied by an elegant signed and numbered print entitled Queen of the Night which was marketed to island residents and Useppa members. This version is a hardbound trade version of the book. The book is a novel based on real events thoroughly researched and validated by experts whenever possible and is a unique representation of the island s remarkable history from 7 000 BC when the Calusa Indians occupied the island through the Union Army s presence Cuban fishermen even the CIA before the Bay of Pigs invasion and finally to today. The story which is a microcosm of America s history is supported by more than 80 beautiful Seerey-Lester paintings. The pictures and words combine to tell a powerful story. Useppa A Passage in Time won the Independent Publisher s Silver Literary Award for Best Regional Fiction in the Southeast US. This project has consumed and inspired me for nearly two years says historian and novelist Dale Ludwig. As I got deeper into the research a terrific story about this tiny island s rich and unbelievable history emerged a history that is a microcosm of events that shaped not only Florida but the entire US.
