This significant sample of work from one of the worlds great yacht designers contains 41 chapters and more than 50 of William Gardens distinctive, salty designs for vessels that range from a 14 dory-style dinghy to a 106 brigantine, to an imaginary steam yacht, to high-tech motorsailers and motor yachts over 100. In between are cutters, sloops, schooners and ketches, most of them traditional types. Accompanying the photographs and design drawings are the authors distinctive, salty comments on each boat and its background. William Gardens design work, produced in what he calls "a branch of Santas Workshop for older boys", is a blend of charm and integrity -- and so is his writing.
