Launched June 27 1966 by series creator Dan Curtis as a Gothic romance evoking the gloomy storm-tossed milieu of the Bront sisters and later evolving into a supernatural blend of vampires witches leviathans time travel and parallel universes Dark Shadows was radically unlike any daytime soap.
