André Derain: The London Paintings

This catalog was created to accompany an exhibition by the same name held at the Courtauld Institute of Art Gallery in London from October 2005 to January 2006--the first exhibition devoted to the paintings of London produced by Derain between 1906 and 1907. New research and the recent discovery of Derains two London sketchbooks have enhanced the understanding of these works. In addition to the catalog of 30 paintings the text includes three essays by Rmi Labrusse and Jacqueline Munck John House Nancy Ireson discussing Derain and the works he produced during his time in London. Also included is a selection of Derains letters from London and his statement on "Modern Thought and Painting " translated into English by Nancy Ireson and John House.
