Hatteras Journal

In 1985 Jan DeBlieu moved to the barrier island of Hatteras off the coast of North Carolina. For more than a year she roamed the islands dunes marshes waters and towns to study its complex natural cycles its fragile ecosystem its bird plant and marine life and the seasonal routines of its stoical residents. The result is nature writing of the first rank.
