Father Junipero Serra journeyed thousands of miles across the sea over high mountains through hot deserts and frightening jungles--from Spain to Mexico to California. This dedicated and determined missionary was one of Californias first settlers and it was he who founded its first nine missions and devoted his life to working with the Indians.
