The Coast Guard

The Coast Guard has seldom assigned a priority to chronicling both mundane and heroic actions by its men and women during their performance of myriad daily tasks. Far too many deeds many with unparalleled historical importance have gone unrecorded; as a result the legacy of a justifiably proud Service suffers. The Foundation for Coast Guard History a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization was formed on 4 August 1999 - the Coast Guards 209th birthday - to assist the Coast Guard History Program and promote a better appreciation on the part of the general public - as well as within the Service itself - of the breadth of its heritage and ever-growing importance to our nation. It is our hope that this book will be a significant addition to that end.
